Fashion for Tall Women

The Mirror picks up on a story about fashion for tall women – who are often the ‘forgotten people’ when it comes to fashion designs. Most high street chains have a ‘petite’ line that caters for shorter women (and let’s face it, most women tend to be shorter rather than taller) or a maternity line, but if you’re after 5′ 11″ or so then you’re pretty much persona non grata.

There are brands like Long Tall Sally that cater specifically to the taller woman, but they aren’t much of a presence on the high street compared to the likes of Top Shop or Republic.

With all the hoohah and concentration on how wide women are, it’s easy to see why height has been so overlooked, but really the two are a function of each other. Unless they’re a total beanpole, any woman over 6ft is going to be naturally a size 14 or above so even before they get to the issue of height – and we know what problems that can cause for us girls!

We think it’s ‘high time’ (groan) that the fashion industry woke up to this invisible apartheid.
